How to Mend Your Electric Stove Fast
You have crushed and blended. You have scrambled and whisked. You have toasted and boiled. Now it is time to warmly cook your invention on your typical electric stove. You crank up the stove-top and nothing starts. Knowing some simple problems for an electric oven that you could fix without a service call can perhaps save you time and expense.
Be sure there is Electricity for Your Range
An electric range won’t work if it does not have electrical service. The conspicuous question that comes to mind is whether your electric stove-top is in fact plugged in to a live plug-in. If it is, confirm your circuit breaker is OK. Maybe you need to change a fuse. If everything is well up to now, verify the electric current of the plug using a current checking device like a digital multi-meter. If you don’t have these close by, trying a portable lamp or something into the outlet could at least confirm if the juice is flowing.
Check the Heating Elements
Confirm that your stove is not plugged in. Take a look at the heating coil of the position that is is suspect. If the heating element is damaged, order a replacement and swap the damaged one with the new one. If the heating element looks OK, put it into a running spot and turn the stove back on. If the heating element still refuses to come on, get a new element and replace it out.
While you are peeking about in your range, all over again with the power off, check the power terminals. If you find any corrosion, get rid of it by the use of fine sandpaper. Stay away from steel wool, as small remains can get fixed in the terminals and create an electrical short when you turn the power back on.
If the heating coil functioned in the active burner, you have a diverse problem. Unplug the range again. Keep a record of the heating element burner receptacles wires to their operational position terminals. Test the wires from a multimeter set to RX1. If the receptacle fails the test, you need to take out the receptacle and put a replacement holder in.
Extension Cords
Stay away from using extension cords for your oven completely. ‘Nuff said.
Please Be Cautious
Electricity can be dangerous, particularly for someone who does not have much past history doing electrical repairs. If you have any concerns at all about troubleshooting your stove-top on your own, ask somebody who has more experience to come over and walk you with the repair.
If you exhaust all theses possibilities, be sure to call in an expert.
